Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma

“Blue Cross” is not one network. In Oklahoma it is at least five, and buying the wrong one is the most common – and most expensive – mistake we see. This page maps which network belongs to which kind of plan, and which Oklahoma hospital systems participate where, so you can check the right list before you enroll.

The Five Networks That Matter

Network Who Can Buy It Breadth
Blue Choice PPO Employer groups only – not sold to individuals The broadest BCBSOK network. When a front desk says “we take Blue Cross,” this is usually the list they checked.
Blue Preferred PPO Individual/marketplace and employer groups Broad, statewide, all 77 counties. The premium network on the marketplace.
Blue Advantage PPO Individual/marketplace and employer groups Statewide but narrower than Blue Preferred. Out-of-network use carries higher deductibles and shifts prior authorization onto you.
MyBlue HMO Individual/marketplace only, 15 OKC and Tulsa metro counties Narrow. Anchored on Mercy (OKC) and Hillcrest/Ardent (Tulsa). PCP-coordinated, no out-of-network benefit except emergencies.
BlueLincs HMO Medicare Advantage members A Medicare network, not a commercial one. Do not use its directory to check an ACA plan.

The trap in one sentence: your doctor can be in-network on Blue Choice through every employer plan in town and still be out-of-network on the Blue Advantage plan you just bought on healthcare.gov. Always search the provider directory with your exact plan network selected.

A Short History of Blue Cross Hospital Standoffs

Worth knowing if your care is anchored to one system. Saint Francis and BCBSOK actually parted ways for about two months in mid-2021 before signing a new deal with retroactive claim reprocessing. Ascension St. John lapsed out of network briefly before a February 2023 agreement. INTEGRIS negotiations went to the deadline in 2024 before a four-year contract was signed. Everything above is in-network today, but these contracts are renegotiated every few years, usually noisily. If continuity at one specific hospital is critical to you, mention it when we quote you and we will factor the contract cycle in.
