Straight talk before anything else: Medica is leaving the Oklahoma marketplace after 2026. Your 2026 plan stays in force through December 31, 2026, but Medica will not sell 2027 plans, and roughly 8,400 Oklahoma members will need a new carrier at Open Enrollment this fall. We will move you without drama – and for free.

Medica is a Minnesota-based nonprofit insurer that has sold individual and family plans on the Oklahoma marketplace for several years. For 2026 its plans remain live and subsidy-eligible, with an approved average rate increase of 19.9% – notably lower than BCBSOK’s 33.3%.

Should You Enroll in Medica for 2026?

Honestly – only in narrow cases. If a mid-year Special Enrollment Period puts a Medica plan clearly cheapest for the remainder of 2026 and your doctors are in its network, it can still make sense as a bridge. But you will be shopping again in November regardless. For most people we quote in 2026, starting with a carrier that will still exist next year (BCBSOK, Ambetter, Oscar, UnitedHealthcare, or CommunityCare in the Tulsa area) avoids doing this twice.

Already a Medica Member? Here Is Your Timeline

  • Now through December 31, 2026: your plan and benefits continue as normal. Keep paying premiums; claims are unaffected by the exit announcement.
  • November 1, 2025 – January 15 window each year: at the Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage (starting November 1, 2026), you must pick a new carrier. If you do nothing, the marketplace may auto-map you to another carrier’s plan – which may not match your doctors or medications.
  • Our advice: do not accept an auto-mapped plan sight unseen. Networks differ sharply between Oklahoma carriers – see our BCBSOK network guide for why. We will run a fresh comparison for you in November at no cost.

Common Questions

Is Medica leaving Oklahoma?

Yes. Medica sells plans through the end of 2026 and will not offer Oklahoma marketplace plans for 2027. Coverage purchased for 2026 remains valid through December 31, 2026.

Do I lose my coverage right now?

No. The exit affects future plan years only. Your 2026 plan pays claims normally all year.

What should Medica members do?

Shop during Open Enrollment starting November 1, 2026 rather than accepting an auto-assigned replacement. A licensed agent costs nothing and will match your doctors and prescriptions against every remaining carrier.
